Anchor Screw

The Anchor Screw from Anchor Systems International Ltd is a patented, easy-to-install foundation solution designed to eliminate the need for traditional concrete. This innovative helical foundation system offers a fast, reliable, and environmentally conscious alternative for securing assets across rail and infrastructure projects.

Unlike conventional post-mix foundations, the Anchor Screw can be installed quickly using handheld hydraulic equipment, removing the need for wet trades, curing time, or large machinery. It is particularly effective where time, access, and environmental restrictions make traditional methods impractical — offering a robust foundation solution for near-track applications, retention walls, cable management, and more.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Rapid Installation: Each Anchor Screw can be installed in just 4–8 minutes, significantly reducing project timescales and on-site disruption.

  • Reduced Environmental Impact: Manufactured from 100% recycled British steel and requiring no concrete, the system minimises waste, transport, and carbon footprint.

  • Reusable & Low Maintenance: Anchor Screws are designed for long-term use, with minimal maintenance required beyond occasional bolt inspections. They can be removed and reinstalled without compromising performance.

  • Versatile in Challenging Ground: Suitable for use on slopes up to 40°, in most soil types, and adaptable for a wide range of near-track and off-track applications.

  • High Adjustability: The domed head design allows angular adjustment during installation, ensuring precise alignment of superstructures and a superior finished result.

Key Features & Benefits

Performance & Range: Flexibility and Functionality

The Anchor Screw range includes a variety of standard sizes, with bespoke options available to suit project-specific requirements ranging from 1595mm, 1795mm, and 1995mm, as well as custom lengths from 1000mm to 2500mm that are available on request

Every installation is designed based on ground investigation data, required loads, spacing, slope angle, and environmental conditions such as wind or vibration. This ensures the chosen Anchor Screw meets the exact demands of each project.

Offering a range of sizes allows Anchor Systems to deliver the most efficient and cost-effective solution for each site, whether a lightweight asset or heavy structural support is required.

Design Considerations: Built for Purpose

Each Anchor Screw is manufactured in the UK using 100% recycled S275 and S355 British steel, then hot-dip galvanised to BS EN ISO 1461, typically achieving around 140 microns of zinc coating. This provides excellent corrosion resistance and adds up to 25 years of extra design life.

The design incorporates:

  • Cast rock tip – for smooth entry through varied soil types and minor obstructions.

  • Helical flights – to provide uplift resistance and compression strength.

  • Domed head and cone design – for superior adjustability and horizontal loading capacity, particularly for TfL and Network Rail applications.

These design features make Anchor Screws easier to handle, transport, and install than post-mix foundations, with no waiting times for curing — allowing immediate installation of the superstructure.

Installation & Usability

Installation is simple and efficient using hydraulic torque heads, available in handheld or machine-mounted variants. A typical team of three to six people can complete installations with minimal equipment, which includes:

  • Torque head (400H or 700H) and gauge

  • 30–40L petrol-powered hydraulic pack

  • Hydraulic hoses, reaction arm, and hex adaptor

Anchor Screws can be installed in almost any weather and ground condition except dense rock, concrete, or sandstone. Each installation typically takes 4–8 minutes, allowing for rapid deployment even on large projects.

Training & Support:
Anchor Systems International Ltd offers free training at its Surrey headquarters or on-site, ensuring installation teams are fully competent and confident in using the system. On-site assistance is available during initial installations, with additional support options at reduced rates.

While Anchor Systems does not carry out installations directly, the company can recommend accredited installers with proven experience across the UK rail sector.
