Temporary & Permanent Buildings

Temporary and permanent buildings require secure and reliable foundations that can withstand variable ground conditions, weather exposure, and structural loads. Whether used for event arenas, storage units, or modular buildings, ensuring stability and safety without permanent ground disturbance is essential.

Anchor Systems’ Vulcan Earth Anchors provide a proven and versatile solution for anchoring these structures in place. Designed to deliver high load capacities immediately upon installation, they eliminate the need for concrete foundations and can be installed rapidly with minimal disruption. This makes them particularly effective for time-sensitive projects across industries such as construction, events, defence, utilities, and civil engineering, where rapid deployment and future removability are key advantages.

Why Use Vulcan Earth Anchors?

Traditional anchoring methods for temporary and semi-permanent structures often rely on poured concrete or ballast blocks, which can be labour-intensive, time-consuming, and environmentally disruptive. These approaches also present challenges in removal, transportation, and ground reinstatement.

The Vulcan Earth Anchor system overcomes these issues by offering:

  • Rapid installation using portable or machine-mounted equipment – no curing or drying time required.

  • Immediate load capacity, enabling structures to be secured and operational straight after installation.

  • Minimal ground disturbance, with no need for excavation or wet trades.

  • Reusability and easy removal, ideal for recurring or seasonal structures.

  • Adaptability to all displaceable ground conditions, including tarmac, compacted gravel, and soft soils.

  • Lower environmental impact, supporting sustainable, non-permanent foundation solutions.

These advantages make mechanical ground anchors a cost-effective and efficient alternative to traditional methods, ensuring both performance and flexibility across project lifecycles.

How Our Products Are Used for This Application

The Vulcan Earth Anchor system secures the structure’s base directly to the ground through a mechanical anchoring method. Each anchor is driven into position using percussion-driven handheld or machine-mounted equipment. Once in place, the anchor is load-locked to create an immediate, active resistance point.

A base plate is then fitted over the anchor head and secured with a load nut. To prevent movement or rotation, galvanised corner stakes can be added for additional stability. This installation approach ensures the structure remains fully restrained against wind uplift, sliding, or uneven settlement.

Anchor Systems also provides:

  • Handheld equipment (up to AS-90) for smaller installations or limited-access sites.

  • Machine-mounted tools for high-capacity applications (over 90kN).

  • Ground nails to supplement foundation stability when required.

All systems should be proof tested on-site using a load locker before use to confirm performance in local ground conditions.

Which Products Are Used for This Application

The Vulcan Earth Anchor range used for temporary and permanent building applications typically includes models AS-10 to AS-90, each selected based on load requirements and ground composition.

Anchor Model Recommended Use:

  • AS-10 - Lightweight structures, marquees, or modular cabins

  • AS-20 - Mid-size event structures, utility enclosures

  • AS-30 - Semi-permanent or heavy-duty frameworks

  • AS-50 - Long-term or large building foundations

  • AS-90+ - High-load applications and large-scale installations

All anchors can be supplied in galvanised or stainless-steel options, with bespoke configurations available for specific site or load conditions.

FAQs

01

Can Vulcan Earth Anchors be removed and reused?

Yes. The anchors can be easily removed with the appropriate equipment and reused for future installations, making them ideal for temporary or recurring structures such as event buildings.

02

Are mechanical ground anchors suitable for all soil types?

Yes. Vulcan Earth Anchors can be installed in a wide range of displaceable ground conditions, including clay, sand, gravel, and even tarmacked surfaces. Site testing is recommended to confirm load performance.

03

How long does installation take compared to concrete foundations?

Installation is typically completed within hours, rather than days. Because there is no curing time, structures can be secured and operational immediately after installation.
